Spring/Summer Bonnet Release April 10th, 2017.
Since leaving Hawaii in 2015 Winters in Germany have been tough. The lack of sunshine, gray days with limited hours of daylight, and the closures of many of our favorite outside playgrounds and gathering opportunities have made it very hard for me to stay motivated and creative. Our first winter here was tough but the second one this year has been better.
In part because I try to fill it with lots of crafts and family time indoors and in early January started brainstorming ideas for my Spring/Summer Bonnet release.
Kinderbonnets are released seasonally and in limited quantities to keep the aspect of slow-fashion and quality in the forefront. I have accumulated a lot of vintage textiles in the past three years from our worldwide travels and decided to let them inspire me for this seasons release.
A neutral damask fabric from Danmark, vintage florals from the coast of north Carolina, East German seersucker fabric believed to be from before the wall fell, and gray blue and turquoise florals from the Baltic Sea reminded me of the ocean colors of Hawaii.
I spoke about my spring vision with my creative friend Eva who’s blog and visual storytelling inspires me often. I feel that for Kinderbonnets her photography has allowed me to communicate to customers the key element of slow fashion: Using carefully selected vintage fabrics, high quality & local new fabrics that tell a story . Paired with the original Kinderbonnet patterns that I created my bonnets are unique, high quality, and durable for many generations.
